What is a DR (Digital Radiography)? What are its advantages over a normal X-Ray? When should you use it? We are here to dispel all doubts!
X-rays are required for a wide variety of diagnoses. These range from fractures to even pneumonia. They are easily available and non-invasive. Hence, they are widely used in the medical community. At Qtest Diagnostics, you can get the best x-ray near you! If you have a dental or an orthopaedic (bone-related) problem, your dentist or physician must have probably recommended an x-ray.
In a traditional x-ray procedure, the body area under examination is exposed to radiation (the x-rays from which x-rays get their name). The x-rays go through your body, onto a film plate. This film plate is then developed using chemicals, for a final image of your bones, or other organs that the physician has prescribed.
In a digital radiography (digital x-ray) method, the principle used is the same. However, there is a slight variation. Instead of a film plate which is later developed, there is no such chemical process involved. Instead, digital x-ray sensitive plates are used which use electrical charges to create an image. This is then directly transferred to a computer or sensor. Thus, you can get a preview of the image immediately.
Qtest Diagnostics is at the forefront of providing professional and safe x-ray and radiography techniques near you. Hence our laboratory technicians are fully trained to handle these modern techniques of providing patient care.
When we do a comparative study of digital and traditional methods of x-ray, the following advantages and disadvantages can be understood:
1. A traditional x-ray takes a longer processing time. This is because the x-ray image had to be developed from the plate in a separate darkroom. This caused a delay in getting results and treatment would often stall. In a digital x-ray, however, the images are calibrated almost instantly. Hence there is very little delay between the process and continuous treatment of the patient.
2. A digital x-ray gives much better image quality. There is greater clarity and a higher resolution. Digital radiography also enables our analysts to use various colour contrasts and fine-tune them for any specific purpose. Hence smaller fractures can also be seen. Traditional x-rays are of lower quality. Moreover, traditional x-rays also heavily depend on the developing process which can affect the image quality. This error is absent in digital x-rays.
3. A traditional x-ray is of lower accuracy. Hence, if the image does not come out properly, a retake would be required. This increases exposure to radiation. In case of a digital radiography, this exposure to radiation is limited. This is due to two reasons: a higher accuracy which renders moot the need for retakes, and the lesser amount of time required to be exposed to x-rays.
4. Unlike traditional x-rays which needed to be kept and handled with care, a digital x-ray is a much more convenient way to experience healthcare. No more lugging around huge x-rays. Digital copies can be mailed, or even shared over WhatsApp with the physician in charge. Thus, you do not have to worry about misplacing such an important medical record!
5. At Qtest Diagnostics, affordable and professional patient care is our motto. However, this does not take away from our goal of taking care of Pune city, the environments of medical and diagnostic centres near you. That is also where using digital x-rays comes in, as they are more environmentally friendly. Traditional x-rays require harmful chemicals, which is not the case with digital x-rays.
